      About Us

Sustainability

We produce with intention, not inventory.

At Ocean Tailored, we don’t believe in fast fashion or mass production. Every wetsuit we make is crafted on demand: because someone needs it, will wear it, and will value it.

Our commitment to sustainability starts with the materials we choose. We use Yamamoto limestone neoprene, a premium alternative to petroleum-based neoprene. Made from natural limestone, it’s more eco-conscious to produce, absorbs less water, dries faster, and lasts longer reducing the need for replacements and minimizing waste.

Our Materials Choice

At Ocean Tailored, we craft our custom wetsuits using premium Yamamoto limestone chloroprene rubber. Yamamoto selects exceptionally pure Japanese limestone containing 99.7% calcium carbonate as a raw material and has replaced petroleum-derived oil in its soft rubber foam with food-grade pure canola oil. The company also continues to develop recycled jersey materials and more sustainable material technologies. The result is a high-performance wetsuit material designed with both performance and environmental responsibility in mind.

Made to Order, Not to Waste

Our wetsuits are crafted only when an order is placed. This on-demand model avoids overproduction and ensures resources are used only when needed, no leftover inventory, no dead stock, just conscious creation.

Elimination of Unnecessary Packaging

We believe in intentional design when it comes to packaging. Any material that is not useful or is discarded after unboxing is eliminated. We aim to use recycled and recyclable packaging wherever practical.

Waste Reduction & Upcycling

We practice upcycling, transforming pre-existing materials into new products instead of discarding them. This not only reduces waste but also fosters creativity and innovation. All leftover materials from wetsuit construction are repurposed to create neoprene goodies such as can covers, wax pockets, and key rings. Any remaining scraps are used to fill punching bags in the combat industry, We work to reduce material waste
through efficient cutting, reuse and upcycling wherever practical.

Switch to Energy-Efficient Lighting and Machinery

Despite being solar-powered, we’ve taken additional steps to conserve energy. We’ve replaced factory lighting with LEDs and upgraded our machinery with energy-efficient servo motors.

No Fast Fashion

The majority of our retail wetsuits are made to order, helping reduce unnecessary stock and overproduction.

Each wetsuit is made because someone will wear it. This eliminates unnecessary stock, reduces waste, and guarantees that every piece has a reason to exist.

Frequently asked Question

What does sustainability mean at Ocean Tailored?

At Ocean Tailored, sustainability is about making thoughtful decisions throughout the product development and manufacturing process rather
than relying on marketing claims. We recognise that technical neoprene products
have environmental impacts, which is why we continually look for opportunities
to improve material selection, manufacturing efficiency, product durability and
operational practices. Our objective is to build products that perform well,
last longer and encourage more responsible consumption.

Does Ocean Tailored use limestone neoprene?

Yes. Ocean Tailored offers premium limestone-based neoprene
from Yamamoto for many of our products. Limestone neoprene is recognised for its
flexibility, durability, thermal performance and manufacturing quality, making
it a preferred material for many high-performance applications. Material
selection always depends on the intended use of the product, and we work with
customers to recommend the most suitable option for their specific
requirements.

Why is product durability important for sustainability?

One of the most effective ways to reduce environmental
impact is to manufacture products that last longer. A wetsuit that performs reliably
over many seasons generally requires fewer replacements than one that wears out
quickly. By focusing on quality materials, careful construction and continuous
product improvement, Ocean Tailored aims to extend the useful life of its
products wherever practical.

How does manufacturing to order support sustainability?

Because the majority of Ocean Tailored retail wetsuits are
manufactured to order, we avoid producing large quantities of unsold inventory.
This approach helps reduce unnecessary stock, minimises excess production and
allows manufacturing resources to be allocated more efficiently. While
made-to-order manufacturing requires careful production planning, it supports a
more responsible approach than producing products that may never be used.

Does Ocean Tailored work to reduce manufacturing waste?

Yes. Manufacturing technical neoprene products naturally
generates material offcuts and production waste. Ocean Tailored continually
looks for opportunities to improve material utilisation, optimise cutting
layouts and refine manufacturing processes to reduce unnecessary waste wherever
practical. While some waste is unavoidable, improving manufacturing efficiency
remains an ongoing focus within our production operations.

Is sustainability an ongoing commitment?

Absolutely. Sustainability is not a single material,
certification or product feature. It is an ongoing process of evaluating new
materials, improving manufacturing methods, reducing waste and making more
responsible decisions across the business. As new technologies and materials
become available, Ocean Tailored will continue exploring opportunities that
support both product performance and long-term environmental responsibility.

Does Ocean Tailored offer environmentally conscious material options?

Yes.
Depending on the product and application, Ocean Tailored offers material
options that support customers looking for more environmentally conscious
choices. These may include natural rubber alternatives, recycled lining fabrics
and other materials developed to reduce environmental impact while maintaining
the technical performance required for watersports and professional marine
applications. Material selection is always based on balancing performance,
durability and the intended use of the product.

Why doesn't Ocean Tailored use one material for every wetsuit?

Every watersport and marine application places different
demands on a wetsuit. Factors such as flexibility, thermal insulation,
buoyancy, abrasion resistance and durability all influence material selection.
Rather than promoting a single solution for every application, Ocean Tailored
selects materials based on the specific performance requirements of each
product. We believe responsible manufacturing means using the right material
for the right purpose while continually evaluating new technologies as they
become available.

Can a longer-lasting wetsuit be more sustainable?

In many cases, yes. Extending the service life of a wetsuit
can reduce the need for frequent replacement, helping lower overall material
consumption over time. By combining premium materials, careful manufacturing
and quality construction techniques, Ocean Tailored aims to produce products
that continue performing reliably across many seasons of use when properly
cared for.

How does Ocean Tailored improve manufacturing efficiency?

Manufacturing efficiency is continually reviewed throughout
our production process. We work to optimise cutting layouts, improve material
utilisation, refine production methods and minimise unnecessary waste wherever
practical. Small improvements across multiple manufacturing stages can
contribute to more efficient production while maintaining the quality standards
expected from every Ocean Tailored product.

Does Ocean Tailored review new materials and technologies?

Yes. The technical textile industry continues to evolve,
with new materials, manufacturing techniques and performance technologies being
introduced regularly. Ocean Tailored actively monitors these developments and
evaluates opportunities that may improve product performance, durability and
environmental responsibility. We believe innovation should be driven by
measurable benefits rather than short-term trends.

How can customers contribute to sustainability?

One of the simplest ways customers can contribute is by
choosing products that are appropriate for their needs, caring for them
correctly and extending their usable life wherever possible. Proper rinsing,
drying, storage and general maintenance can help preserve the performance of a
wetsuit for many years. We believe that responsible ownership is an important
part of reducing the overall environmental impact of technical neoprene
products.

Does Ocean Tailored consider sustainability during product development?

Yes. Sustainability is considered throughout our product
development process alongside performance, durability and functionality.
Material selection, product construction, manufacturing efficiency and expected
product lifespan are all evaluated when developing new products. While
performance remains essential for technical neoprene equipment, we continually
look for opportunities to make responsible decisions throughout the development
process.

Why doesn't Ocean Tailored make exaggerated environmental claims?

We believe transparency is more valuable than marketing. The
environmental impact of technical neoprene products depends on many factors,
including raw materials, manufacturing, transportation, product lifespan and
customer use. Rather than making broad sustainability claims, we prefer to
communicate openly about the steps we are taking today while continuing to
improve our products and manufacturing processes over time.

Does manufacturing location influence sustainability?

Manufacturing
is only one part of a product's overall environmental impact. Material
sourcing, production efficiency, transportation, product durability and the
lifespan of the finished product all contribute to the bigger picture. Ocean
Tailored focuses on improving each stage of the manufacturing process where
practical, recognising that responsible production involves continuous
improvement rather than a single solution.

Does Ocean Tailored work to reduce unnecessary packaging?

Yes.
We continually review our packaging practices to minimise unnecessary materials
while ensuring products remain well protected during international
transportation. Because our products are shipped worldwide, packaging must balance
protection, presentation and responsible material use. We continue to evaluate
opportunities to improve this balance as better packaging solutions become
available.

How does product quality support sustainability?

Quality and sustainability are closely connected. A
well-designed, carefully manufactured wetsuit that performs reliably over an
extended period is generally replaced less frequently than one with a shorter
service life. By focusing on premium materials, skilled craftsmanship and
consistent quality control, Ocean Tailored aims to manufacture products that
customers can depend on for many years of use.

How is Ocean Tailored improving its sustainability journey?

We recognise that sustainability is an ongoing journey
rather than a finished destination. As new materials, manufacturing
technologies and industry best practices continue to evolve, we regularly
review opportunities to improve our products and operations. Our commitment is
to make meaningful improvements where practical while maintaining the
performance, reliability and quality expected from every Ocean Tailored
product.

How can I extend the life of my wetsuit?

Proper care is one of the most effective ways to maximise
the lifespan of a wetsuit. We recommend rinsing your wetsuit thoroughly with
fresh water after every use, drying it naturally in the shade and storing it
away from direct sunlight or excessive heat. Avoid folding the neoprene for
extended periods and use a wide hanger where appropriate. Simple care routines
help preserve flexibility, seams and overall performance, allowing your wetsuit
to provide reliable service for many seasons.

Can a wetsuit be repaired instead of replaced?

In many cases, yes. Minor seam damage, panel wear and other
common issues can often be professionally repaired, extending the usable life
of the product. While not every wetsuit can be restored to its original
condition, repairing a product where practical is often a more responsible
option than replacing it unnecessarily. We encourage customers to contact us
before deciding to retire a wetsuit, as the issue may be repairable.

Why does Ocean Tailored focus on product longevity?

A
product that continues performing well year after year generally requires fewer
replacements, reducing material consumption and manufacturing demand over time.
By combining premium materials, careful construction and quality control, Ocean
Tailored aims to manufacture wetsuits that provide dependable long-term
performance. We believe durability is one of the most meaningful contributions
a manufacturer can make towards more responsible production.

Does Ocean Tailored evaluate new sustainable materials?

Yes.
The performance textile industry continues to develop new materials and
manufacturing technologies, and we actively monitor innovations that may
improve both product performance and environmental responsibility. Before
introducing any new material, we carefully evaluate its durability,
functionality and suitability for the intended application. We believe
meaningful innovation should be supported by proven performance rather than
marketing claims alone.

Does Ocean Tailored work with responsible suppliers?

We value long-term relationships with suppliers who share
our commitment to quality, consistency and continuous improvement. Selecting
trusted material partners helps us maintain the high standards expected from
Ocean Tailored products while providing confidence in the materials used
throughout our manufacturing process. As our business evolves, we continue to
review opportunities to strengthen responsible sourcing across our supply
chain.

Why is transparency important?

We
believe customers deserve honest information rather than exaggerated environmental
claims. Sustainability is a complex subject with many contributing factors, and
no single material or manufacturing process provides every answer. By
communicating openly about our products, materials and ongoing improvements, we
aim to build long-term trust through transparency rather than marketing
language.

Can custom manufacturing support responsible production?

Yes. Manufacturing products to order helps align production
with actual customer demand rather than producing large volumes of inventory
that may never be sold. While every manufacturing process has an environmental
impact, producing according to confirmed orders allows resources to be used
more efficiently and supports a more considered approach to production
planning.

How does Ocean Tailored reduce unnecessary waste?

Reducing
waste is an ongoing objective throughout our manufacturing process. We
continually review material utilisation, cutting efficiency, production
workflows and manufacturing practices to identify opportunities for
improvement. Although some production waste is unavoidable when manufacturing
technical neoprene products, continuous refinement helps improve efficiency
over time.

Does Ocean Tailored have future sustainability goals?

Yes. We recognise that sustainability is an evolving
journey. As new materials, technologies and manufacturing practices become
available, we will continue evaluating opportunities that support improved
product performance, responsible manufacturing and long-term environmental
progress. Our objective is to make meaningful improvements that deliver genuine
value rather than short-term marketing benefits.

Why is continuous improvement important?

Continuous improvement has always been part of Ocean
Tailored's philosophy. Whether refining product designs, improving
manufacturing efficiency, evaluating new materials or enhancing quality
control, we believe progress is achieved through ongoing development rather
than one-time changes. This mindset supports both better products and more
responsible manufacturing over the long term.

How does Ocean Tailored balance performance and sustainability?

Technical marine products must first perform their intended
function reliably and safely. Our approach is to balance environmental
considerations with the performance, durability and reliability expected from
premium wetsuits and neoprene products. Every material and manufacturing
decision considers both technical requirements and opportunities for
responsible improvement wherever practical.

What is Ocean Tailored's long-term sustainability commitment?

Ocean Tailored is committed to continually improving the way
we design, develop and manufacture neoprene products. We recognise that
sustainability is an ongoing responsibility rather than a destination, and we
will continue exploring better materials, more efficient manufacturing methods
and responsible business practices as our company grows. By focusing on
transparency, durability, innovation and continuous improvement, we aim to
create products that perform exceptionally while contributing to a more
responsible future for the watersports and marine industries.
