The Ocean Tailored Hydro Guard is a customizable impact wetsuit built for big wave surfing, kitesurfing, kiteboarding, windsurfing, wing foiling, foiling and other demanding water sports.

Unlike conventional impact wetsuits with fixed padding, Hydro Guard lets you choose the level of impact coverage that suits how you ride. Choose one of our ready-designed impact configurations for a faster setup, or use our 3D Wetsuit Builder to create your own individual impact layout.

Hydro Guard uses removable EVA impact panels positioned across key areas of the body.

Choose from three ready-designed impact configurations when ordering directly from this page, with different levels of coverage across areas such as the chest, ribs, shoulders, back, thighs, knees and shins.

The majority of impact zones use substantial 25mm EVA foam, with 12mm EVA used selectively where a lower-profile construction is better suited to the position and movement of the body.

Individual EVA inserts are also removable and replaceable, allowing panels to be removed when they are not required or replaced later without replacing the wetsuit itself.

More Than a Big Wave Wetsuit

Hydro Guard was developed for demanding water sports, not just big wave surfing.

For big wave surfing, extensive impact coverage can be configured for more demanding conditions.

For kitesurfing and windsurfing, impact panels can provide additional cushioning during high-speed sessions and hard falls.

For wing foiling and foiling, coverage can be configured around areas such as the torso, ribs, shoulders, thighs, knees and shins while maintaining flexibility through high-movement areas.

Impact Cushioning with Added Buoyancy

Closed cell EVA foam provides cushioning while also adding buoyant volume to the wetsuit. The amount of additional buoyancy varies according to the number, thickness and position of the impact panels selected.

This added buoyancy can provide additional support in the water, particularly during demanding sessions, but Hydro Guard is not a substitute for certified flotation or safety equipment.

Important: Hydro Guard is a performance wetsuit incorporating optional EVA impact foam. It is not a certified personal flotation device (PFD), life jacket, buoyancy aid or certified protective equipment. It is not designed or certified to prevent drowning or injury. Always use appropriate certified safety equipment for your activity and conditions.

Hooded or Hoodless. You Decide.

Hydro Guard can be configured as either a hoodless full suit or hooded full suit, allowing you to choose the setup that works for your water temperature and conditions.

Available thicknesses include 2mm, 3/2mm, 4/3mm, 4/4mm, 5/4mm and 6/4mm.

Optional Rescue Handle

Originally developed following requests from big wave surfers, an optional reinforced Rescue Handle can be positioned high on the back.

The handle provides an additional dedicated grip point when another person is assisting the rider from the water.

Built as a Premium Wetsuit

Beneath the impact system is the same premium construction philosophy used across our performance wetsuit range.

Yamamoto #40 is used through high-movement shoulder and arm areas for stretch and mobility.

Yamamoto #39 is used through the core for warmth, flexibility and comfort.

Yamamoto #38 reinforces high-wear knee areas for additional durability.

Construction includes Glued and Blind Stitched seams where applicable, internal seam taping, premium YKK zipper hardware, wrist and ankle grip seals and strategic reduced-panel construction. From 3/2mm and above, thermal lining is included through the torso for additional warmth without adding unnecessary bulk through the shoulders and arms.

Are the EVA impact panels removable and replaceable?

Yes. Individual EVA inserts are designed to be removable and replaceable.

This allows you to remove selected inserts when you want less impact coverage and replace individual panels later without replacing the complete wetsuit.

Does the Hydro Guard help with buoyancy?

Yes. Closed cell EVA foam naturally adds buoyant volume to the wetsuit, so Hydro Guard provides additional buoyancy compared with a conventional wetsuit without the impact system.
